ELT Group Germany Wins €13M Finnish EPM Training Contract
ELT Group Germany has secured a €13 million contract from the Finnish Ministry of Defence to develop, implement, and support a training system for electronic protective measures (EPM). The contract, which includes options, will provide advanced training systems for sensor operators in the Finnish Armed Forces.
ELT’s Managing Director, Marcello Mariucci, highlighted the company’s expertise in military systems and electromagnetic spectrum modelling. The Meckenheim-based company specializes in RF-based test systems for radar, communications, and electronic warfare (EW) devices, and will integrate EW sensors into mobile military platforms as part of the project.
German Military to Launch Satellites from SaxaVord with RFA
The German Air Force’s space command plans to use SaxaVord Spaceport in the Shetland Islands for launching intelligence-gathering satellites, marking a step toward strengthening Europe’s sovereign launch capabilities. This initiative aims to enhance defence links across Europe and provide quick, independent access to space during conflicts or disruptions.
The spaceport, located on Unst, will handle both military and commercial satellite launches. German company Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA) intends to conduct the first satellite launch from UK soil later this year. The partnership with SaxaVord Spaceport supports a more resilient and agile European defence network.
Major General Michael Traut of the German Air Force emphasized the importance of strengthening space links with European allies, highlighting the strategic role of sovereign launch capabilities in ensuring security. SaxaVord CEO Frank Strang underscored the spaceport’s growing role in global defence, bolstered by RFA’s investment.
Indra, Rheinmetall to Upgrade Leopard 2 E Combat System
Indra and Rheinmetall Electronics have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the Spanish Leopard 2 E Combat System. The partnership focuses on integrating advanced Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) technologies into the tanks, ensuring their readiness for future combat needs.
This MoU reinforces their long-standing collaboration, having previously developed the Fire Control and C4I systems for the Leopard 2 E. The upgrade aims to maintain compatibility with other Leopard 2 models while incorporating continuous product innovations.
Indra brings expertise in producing and servicing the Leopard 2 Combat System and developing various mission equipment, while Rheinmetall is known for its advanced, digitalized defence electronics. This partnership supports Spain’s efforts to modernize its armoured fleets as part of broader NATO and EU defence initiatives.
Wanfeng Acquires Volocopter Assets in €10M Deal
Wanfeng’s subsidiary, heptus 591. GmbH, has signed an Asset Purchase Agreement to acquire key assets from Volocopter GmbH, including tangible assets, intellectual property rights, and certain contract obligations. The €10 million deal, overseen by administrator Tobias Wahl, does not require board or shareholder approval, falling under the chairman’s authority.
While the deal offers significant potential, it carries risks, such as operational and legal challenges, as well as uncertainties regarding commercialization and industrial development.
