Bundeswehr Day Opens Doors Nationwide

On 28 June, Bundeswehr Day held at 10 locations across Germany to showcase the armed forces and strengthen ties with the public. Visitors can explore military equipment, meet personnel, and learn about career opportunities.

Events include Eurofighter and Marder displays, support unit demos, and public promotion and swearing-in ceremonies. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius urged citizens to engage with soldiers and gain insight into their role. Last year’s event attracted over 230,000 visitors.

Germany Commits €800M to Upgrade Submarine Fleet

Germany has awarded TKMS an €800 million contract to modernize six Type 212A submarines over the next decade. The upgrade will enhance navigation, command, and weapon systems, ensuring continued operational readiness.

TKMS, acting as lead contractor, will manage a network of suppliers and support long-term fleet availability. The deal strengthens Germany’s naval capabilities and boosts TKMS’s €18 billion order book ahead of a planned IPO.

Eurofighter ECRS Mk1 Radar Gets Major Upgrade

HENSOLDT and Indra have delivered the first ECRS Mk1 radars with upgraded processors and antenna systems, boosting the Eurofighter’s air-to-air, air-to-ground, and EW capabilities.

The enhancements enable faster mode switching, AI-assisted tasks, and future software upgrades. Flight testing begins summer 2025, ahead of integration into German and Spanish Eurofighters.

FBI Selects Busch PROtective AMP-1 X Helmet

The FBI has chosen Busch PROtective’s AMP-1 X as its standard ballistic helmet under a five-year DOJ-wide contract. The lightweight helmet meets the updated 2024 DEA-FBI Ballistic Helmet Protocol, NIJ IIIA, and VPAM standards, offering enhanced protection, low backface deformation, and comfort.

Weighing just 3.3 lbs (base) and 3.1 lbs in FBI configuration, the AMP-1 X replaces the AMP-1 TP, previously adopted in 2019. Developed with input from U.S. law enforcement, the helmet is already in use by over 22 state police agencies.

Quantum, Fraunhofer Partner on UAV Radar

Quantum Systems and Fraunhofer FHR have partnered to integrate mmW-SAR radar into UAVs, enhancing all-weather ISR capabilities. Backed by Germany’s WTD 81, the collaboration also explores radar processing, jamming resistance, and RCS analysis. Quantum will open an R&D office near FHR to advance RF sensor innovation.

AIM Infrarot-Module has launched the HuntIR Mk4, an advanced MWIR thermal sight for sniper and support weapons. Shown at Teuto Defence Live Fire Days 2025, the Mk4 offers improved image quality, modular design, and AI-enabled passive rangefinding—eliminating the need for lasers.

It detects vehicles at over 6,800m and personnel at 2,500m, with digital zoom, Bluetooth, USB-C, and hot-swappable batteries. Developed with VECTED GmbH, the AI system supports object recognition and distance estimation, enhancing stealth and targeting accuracy.
