Germany Plans €25B Tank and Vehicle Deal
Germany plans to buy up to 1,000 Leopard tanks and 2,500 Boxer vehicles in a €25B push to meet NATO’s demand for seven combat brigades. Contracts are expected by late 2025, expanding the Bundeswehr’s current limited fleet and possibly sidelining the MGCS programme.
The Lynx IFV is also under consideration to align with European partners, raising questions about delivery timelines and staffing the enlarged force.
Rheinmetall Wins Record 155mm Ammo Deal
Rheinmetall Denel Munition has secured its largest contract to date, supplying a European NATO member with 155mm Assegai artillery rounds and propellant charges worth several hundred million euros. Deliveries begin in 2025 and conclude by 2027.
The deal supports Rheinmetall’s goal of producing 1.5 million shells annually by 2027 and boosts South Africa’s defence industry, sustaining over 2,500 jobs and 1,500 suppliers
Diehl & Sener Partner on Hypersonic, Unmanned Systems
Diehl Defence and Sener have signed a new agreement to jointly develop hypersonic weapons, unmanned systems, and FCAS technologies. Building on their 25-year partnership, including the IRIS-T program, the firms will focus on remote carriers, UGVs, and cutting-edge military tech to strengthen European defence capabilities.
Daimler Truck and ARQUUS Team Up on Military Vehicles
Daimler Truck and French defence firm ARQUUS have formed a strategic partnership to co-develop and support military wheeled vehicles, focusing on modernising the French Army’s logistics fleet.
Production will span both countries, with ARQUUS manufacturing in France and Daimler Truck in Germany and Alsace. The partnership aims to pool expertise, boost Franco-German defence cooperation, and strengthen regional industrial bases.
EU Consortium Launches MARTE Tank Project
A 51-member European consortium led by Germany’s KNDS and Rheinmetall has launched the MARTE project to develop a next-generation main battle tank. Backed by €20 million from the EU Defence Fund, the initiative includes partners from 11 EU nations and Norway.
Supported by 11 defence ministries, MARTE aims to enhance Europe’s strategic autonomy by designing a future-proof, high-tech tank system using lessons from recent conflicts. Major partners include Leonardo, Indra, and Saab.
